Journal 15: Reflection on my learning outcomes

Meeting expectations     Looking back my first online reflective journal, I expected that l can improve my technique skills of by using website programing language, such as HTML/CSS/JAVASCRIPT. In this semester, not only I got more opportunities to practice these programing languages, but also I acquired knowledge about API and PHP.     Another expectation is that I wanted to develop my critical design thinking. It is helpful for my web design. For example, although some websites has beautiful appearance, it might not match clients’ wants and needs. In this case, users may not satisfy with that web project and it would likely fails in customers’ experience. I have met my expectation because of this course. Firstly, sufficient knowledge about critical think and design process were provided in the lecture. Journal 14: Reflection on portfolio design process

    This week I will work on my portfolio design.     First of all, I used Photoshop to draw a logo for my portfolio.            The reason and concept of this logo is I want to use that to tell the audiences my main purpose of this website. Therefore I draw a separated "PORTFOLIO" as the logo and put in at the center in my home page. I also wrote my name and course name between logo.          As for the structure, I try to make it clear and easy to use or understand.  I put four buttons in my homepage which called project, portfolio, reflection and about me. Users can click it to go the corresponding pages. I hope can guide the users to interact with my web. Journal 13: Reflection on trade show

    This week my team had prepare for our trade show.          I designed a poster for this trade show. There are three main purposes of this poster. Firstly, the users can understand the concept and know how use our web product after reading this poster. In oder to achieve that, I print an interaction maps and task flow to try to help audience to understand interact with this web. I also write some brief instructions for each webpage. Secondly, I want to use the poster to target our audience. In this case, I put two personas at the button of the poster.  Personas can offer a practical way to understand the needs of our target audience for designing the product and creating a document for them and keeping the user's point of view. Journal 12: Reflection on style design and planning improvements

This week, I will adjust the color of buttons. I use the same color and hover color of each button by CSS. In addition, I change the font of words  in order to keep its visual consistency. Here is the color I used in my web design:     Here is the font family I used: I also improve the layout because we want to make the web pages look better.     I want to add a function call Today in History. It will compare the news happened in today  with historical events recorded in SLQ dataset.  However, there is technical challenge for me. I only know the year in which the event occurred, but there is no exact date I are able to use in SLQ database. So it is difficult to compare the today’s new with historical events. Journal 11: Reflection on game page interface design

    This week I will design a new layout of the game page.     For Version 1, this game page interface does not contain interactive functions and the game can not play. Many testers claimed that the appearance of this interface is not satisfied. It also like not great. So I want to make it more beautiful.     Version 1:     Then, I changes the to Version 2 below. Firstly,  I enlarged the size of the puzzle.The reason is that it is hard to adjust the position for each piece of puzzle play the game with 9X9 difficulty in size.  Secondly, I reorganized the position of buttons and the time count. The Start button is at below of puzzle. I hope that it is clear for user to find this button and users should know how to start the game without confusion. My concept is use timeline as my main design element to indicate the button. Therefore I put buttons such as time counter, hint, difficult and rule are put together at the timeline. ...

Journal 10: Reflection on homepage improvement in holiday

    In my holiday, my priority is to develop the homepage interactive functionality. The biggest problem is that the slide show in the center at home page purely is an animation without any interactive function. Many testers get confuse here.          According to feedbacks, I need to improve this slide show. The most obvious reason is to eliminate misunderstanding and confusion. It is because some testers reported that this animation is keeping shift five slides once a little while. When the slide changes to the next slide, the color of circle point the year laber (from 1914 to 1918) will also change. Based on their experience of using web page, they think it is clickable and link to other pages. However, when they click on the slide, there is no responses. It may mislead them. Journal 9: Reflection of Major Project Part B

    There is almost 70% of our project has been completed. It is  as far along as I thought because we expect to finish above 60% of the project. Currently, we have completed all the html we need, which means that the skeleton of our website has been developed. Additionally, most functions in the home page, the map page and the detail information page are achieved before our pitch. However, the introduction page and the about us page has not been finished making, as well as this, the game in our website still is not working to date.
